A NegotiateHer Baby Is Coming

While Apa Gets Ready for Her Biggest “Negotiation” Yet, I’m Trying Something New

A Note from Gitanjali

Every now and then life reminds us that it has its own priorities. This month, I have some happy news to share with you. One half of the NegotiateHer podcast team is about to become a mom. Apa is expecting a baby!

Naturally, that means something else is also taking a short break. The podcast will be quieter for a little while as Apa focuses on her new little project. There will always be another podcast episode to record, another topic to debate, and another conversation to have. Babies, thankfully, do not wait for our content calendars.

Watching this unfold has made me think about something I often discuss but do not always apply to myself. We spend a great deal of time talking about career progression, ambition and productivity, yet real life has a habit of reminding us that careers are only one part of a much bigger picture. The people we care about, our health, our families, and the unexpected moments that shape our lives deserve to interrupt our plans from time to time.

“Careers are only one part of a much bigger picture.”

One of the things I have always admired about Apa is that she has never believed success has to come at the expense of everything else. Throughout our conversations on motherhood, careers and negotiation, we have often spoken about making deliberate choices rather than simply following expectations. It feels rather fitting that the next chapter of her own story now reflects so much of what we have been discussing over the past year.

So please join me in wishing her every happiness. I suspect she will negotiate brilliantly with her toddlers one day.

✨ RESOURCE OF THE MONTH

A New Chapter on Instagram

While Apa is busy preparing for a new arrival, I am trying something new myself.

Over the past few weeks you may have noticed that NegotiateHer has become a bit more active on Instagram. Rather than simply posting announcements about events and podcasts, I have started experimenting with short videos and practical negotiation tips taken directly from the NegotiateHer online course. My hope is that these one-minute conversations make negotiation feel a little less intimidating and more practical for everyday life.

The truth is that I have no idea what I am doing just yet — and that means I need your help!

If you see one of the videos, tell me what you think. Comment if something was useful, send me a direct message if you disagree or want another topic covered, and tell me which examples felt practical — and which ones did not.

Building something useful has always been more interesting to me than building something popular. The only way to know the difference is to hear from the people it is intended to help.

Closing Reflection

One of the things I enjoy most about NegotiateHer is that it has never been just about negotiation. It has always been about people, relationships and the different seasons we all move through.

This month one member of our team is preparing for one of life’s biggest adventures. The other is experimenting with something completely new and hoping to learn from the community that has grown around these conversations.

Progress does not always come from following the original plan.

Thank you, as always, for reading, listening, commenting and challenging our thinking. I look forward to hearing from you over on Instagram, and I hope you’ll join me in wishing Apa all the very best for the exciting months ahead.

With clarity and courage,

Gitanjali
